Week of Peace 2011

Apologies The London Peace Debate 2011 is currently postponed

The London Peace Debate 2011 will be a lively, engaging and insightful discussion entitled:

'Social mobility in London – Myth or Reality?' London is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, a city of dreams – you can achieve anything you want to if you work hard enough. But is hard work enough to 'make it' in London?

The debate will explore areas such as:

  • Is London a City in which all it takes to succeed is hard work, skill and talent?
  • What factors are preventing or supporting people in their pursuit of upward social mobility?
  • How important is who you know?
  • Do the circumstances into which you are born affect your chances of improving your position in society?
  • What is the role and impact of Business and Employment in shaping the social fibre of local communities?
  • Is there a place for a concept similar to the 'American Dream' in the UK?
  • How can we raise hope and build aspirations in young people?
  • What is the real meaning of success?
The 2010 Peace Debate Panel

The debate will be an opportunity to discuss issues which affect many Londoners and drive many of our decision making processes, often shaping our ability to fully integrate into London life. The event will have a question time format with a panel and an interactive audience of youth representatives, business/corporate representatives, community organizations and faith groups representing a broad range of views.
