The Mosque is quite small, so the maximum amount of people that they can cater for about is 20.  Event 7 : Jewish (Lighting of Candle)
 Time : 10.30pm
Location :
South West Essex & Settlement Reform Synagogue, Oaks Lane, Newbury Park, IG2 7PL
Details :
‘As the Jewish community prepares itself for the New Year and Day of Atonement, individuals look into themselves to gauge the extent to which they met their own expectations of their actions towards one another and God over the past year.  This inward reflection formally begins this year with a Service on Saturday night 20th September.  We welcome guests from other faiths to the Service being held at the South West Essex and Settlement Reform Synagogue commencing with refreshments at 10.30pm.  During the Service we will light the last Peace Week Candle, which will enable us to look outwards to the outside world as well.  For further information, please contact 020 8599 0936 or admin@swesrs.org.uk <mailto:admin@swesrs.org.uk>

 Sunday 21st September
Event 8 : Peace Pole Picnic
 Time : 2.00pm onwards
Location :
Valentines Park (by the Great Cedar Tree, close to the Ornamental Lake)
Details :

In 1995 a Peace Pole was presented to the Borough of Redbridge by Max Reid.  It is the only one in Redbridge.  The Pole was accepted at a dedication ceremony by then Mayor Cllr Ronnie Barden on the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Now that work on refurbishing Valentines Mansion is close to completion a small group of people have come together to try and “smarten up” the Peace Pole and some work has already taken place.

There is therefore going to be an informal picnic at the site on this year’s United Nations International Day of Peace, and in conjunction with other events taking place during London Week of Peace.  All are invited to come along with friends and family for a relaxed and informal afternoon (with no speeches!) and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the setting in Valentines Park.  Bring your own food and perhaps some extra to share!
